Hypnotherapy for Sleep

"Insomnia is difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep.

Symptoms of insomnia include finding it hard to fall asleep, waking up several times during the night and feeling tired during the day." - NHS.uk

Hypnotherapy to Improve Sleep

I'm often contacted by people with sleep problems. The most common sleep problems are not being able to get to sleep or waking during the night, either repeatedly or for long periods of time, the results of this being feeling tired, low in energy and irritable during the day. Sleeping too much can also result in the same issues as not getting enough sleep. We sleep for hours and hours but are not ready to get up in the morning because we still don't feel refreshed.

Getting a good night's sleep is widely recognised as being vital to our physical health but it's equally important, if not even more so, for our mental health. Sleep is fundamental to our ability to cope with the stresses or problems we face every day, at home, at work or in our relationships. Perhaps then, it is understandable that sleep problems and disorders are common, with the majority of us suffering from them at some time.

"Poor sleep effects our physical health – like water from a burst pipe in your home, the effects of sleep deprivation will seep into every nook and cranny of biology, down into your cells, even altering your most fundamental self – your DNA."  - Prof Matthew Walker

Anxiety, stress and depression commonly cause sleep problems and clients I see for these reasons are often struggling with either not getting enough sleep or too much. In these circumstances, sleep is often one of the first areas of life to be impacted. Even those who are not specifically seeking help for sleep issues, anxiety or depression often note disrupted sleep patterns or poor quality of sleep. This is because poor sleep can cause, or worsen the effects of, many conditions.

A programme of solution focused hypnotherapy will result in improved sleep patterns, and when sleep improves other symptoms or conditions improve or subside too. Better still, hypnotherapy is entirely natural so there is no risk of medication dependency as there would be with sleeping pills. Hypnotherapy for sleep promotes good REM sleep, necessary for refreshing and restorative sleep to underpin healthy body and mind.
